Day 8 – Shop & Work day

Today started out very cloudy and foggy but turned into a beautiful sunny day, just like yesterday! I started the day at 7am with an hour and a half conference call with international TimeBank coordinators (most of the callers were in the US and it was their Wednesday afternoon). I then did two loads of washing, an hour of body combat, and left the house to go to the Green Grocer and the Supermarket.

Was stoked the Green Grocer was still open – this is where I get most of my fruit and veges. There was one or two others shopping there at the time but we kept our distance. Unfortunately they were out of fresh ginger but had everything else I needed.

Then it was off to the Supermarket – first time in a couple of weeks. Pleased to see there was no line outside so I just went straight in. No fresh ginger here either… but they did have something rather special in the vege aisle. She then found the chocolate…

The supermarket had most of what I needed – though no large 3kg bags of brown rice, fresh ginger, maple syrup or baking powder in a box… just screw top plastic container. The muffins I made the other day were decidedly flat – I checked the expiry on my baking powder (2017!) so figured that might be why. I bought us some treats (chocolate & hot cross buns) and tried hard not to think of the plastic – normally we get everything unpackaged (e.g. oats from bin inn)… but it’s not possible to shop there at the moment. Even the pick-n-mix at the supermarket was all taped up.

There was a long line of people waiting to get in once I left the supermarket so I managed to time my visit really well! It was home and an afternoon of TimeBank work. There’s heaps to do so I was pretty focused and have lots still on the to do list for tomorrow. I’m off to make dinner now with another TimeBank related Zoom call on at 6.30. Then a social Zoom call at 8pm with our dancing friends.

It’s been a busy day.

About the Author

Born and bred in New Zealand's South Island, this Kiwi likes getting 'out there' exploring the world and its wonderful people! I have taught English in South Korea, volunteered in Kyrgyzstan, studied in Denmark, lived in community in Scotland and visited friends and wonderful people all over the world. Now married to Antony the adventures continue together. I have a habit of being notoriously behind in my blog - but will do what I can to record my adventures, as much for my own record as anything (as I have a terrible memory). After an amazing year in Iran and Europe, in 2016, Antony and I are off again September 29 2019 - Feb 1 2020. Hopefully I can blog about most of what we get up to! Enjoy the read! Kate x
