Day 7

Today I…

  • woke with an incredibly itchy throat (again) – took nasal spray for allergies and a pill which I’ve tried to avoid taking every day but realise I need to or I suffer with itchy eyes, throat and runny nose. (I haven’t really been snot free since start of January – combination of a cold or two and allergies – not sure what is causing the allergy). Am very grateful I don’t have a cough or fever!!
  • watched 2 episodes of TV on demand before the gym class came on (Grey’s Anatomy and the Resident – shows Antony has no interest in… together at nights we are watching My Brilliant Friend and loving it)
  • enjoyed the Les Mills Body Balance class on TV- great to stretch all the muscles I can really feel after yesterday’s workout
  • spent a couple of hours reading a friend’s (excellent) masters thesis on currency design, connection, timebanking and wellbeing.
  • had a 40 minute lunchtime call from our previous mayor
  • enjoyed a 40 minute afternoon nap
  • studied te reo Māori for an hour
  • attempted golf practice (no good- hand still too sore to swing a club) but Antony had a good go with the practice net.
  • biked leisurely through the domain admiring all the pretty autumn colours – this is an unedited pic I took…
  • had lovely salad with boiled eggs for lunch and yummy lentil & vege stew leftovers on rice with silverbeet for dinner
  • harvested all the broccoli off-shoots (after harvesting main heads a month or so ago) then spent ages trying to remove all the creepy crawlies hiding in them. I boiled up the stalks and tops with some onion for tomorrow’s lunch (soup)… discovered the green camo bugs turn white/ tan when boiled!

About the Author

Born and bred in New Zealand's South Island, this Kiwi likes getting 'out there' exploring the world and its wonderful people! I have taught English in South Korea, volunteered in Kyrgyzstan, studied in Denmark, lived in community in Scotland and visited friends and wonderful people all over the world. Now married to Antony the adventures continue together. I have a habit of being notoriously behind in my blog - but will do what I can to record my adventures, as much for my own record as anything (as I have a terrible memory). After an amazing year in Iran and Europe, in 2016, Antony and I are off again September 29 2019 - Feb 1 2020. Hopefully I can blog about most of what we get up to! Enjoy the read! Kate x

  1. Hi Kate and Antony,
A suggestion Kate for that itchy throat. Try grated ginger. Quite good for sorting out throats.
I enjoy a drink of cider vinegar, honey, boiling water and a few pieces of grated ginger.
Antony is enjoying sorting out his golf shots. Good to see you enjoying the broccoli from your garden. Stunning photos of autumn. Keep smiling.

    1. I second that John- ginger is awesome! I have been having it grated into my hot lemon and honey drinks too. I went to buy more today but Countdown and the Green Grocer were out of it 🙁 I was hoping that today was going to be my only shopping day… might have to try my luck another day…
