Day 37

Just a quick update as I have a bridge tournament starting soon…

I said yesterday I was going to have stuffed marrow for dinner… was quite excited about trying my new recipe. I made the ‘stuffing’ part and then Antony sliced open the marrow… only to discover there was no big seedy middle bit to take out where the stuffing should go! He took out a very small seedy bit at one end- would have fit about a tablespoon of filling in it!

So as you can see from the picture I decided we’d just have to cut it up and bake the pieces in the oven. They are suprisingly delicious cooked like that. I served the mushroom rice ‘filling’ on the plate beside the marrow pieces and some salad. It all tasted good so that’s the most important thing!

Last night I spent a couple of hours getting the quiz all ready for tomorrow night. I have prepared 8 rounds and think we’ll use the set time function for breakout rooms so each round people will have 5 minutes to discuss answers with their teams. I have a feeling it may be easier than last time but it is so hard to know what people know / don’t know! If you want to join the quiz register here (as an individual to be placed in a team or as a team already sorted). Anyone, anywhere is welcome to join. 🙂

Today I had one of the best zooms ever – a 2 hour training session on facilitation using something called Liberating Structures. It was sooo good, so interactive and meaningful and very useful in many settings. First of 3 sessions so am looking forward to the next two Fridays for the other sessions. It’s useful stuff for facilitating both in person meetings and meetings over zoom. I hope to put into practice some of the things I learned on Sunday at the AGM I’ll be facilitating for the Rangitata Green Branch. Goodbye boring meetings!

After a quick lunch of salad and last night’s leftovers I had 2 zooms with year 7 and 8 classes from school then I pottered away in the kitchen – cleaning all the cupboards, prepping dinner, putting away an order from local growers (rye flour, buckwheat groats and buckwheat flour), started my rye sour dough starter and planned meals for the week ahead. I also harvested all these tomatoes from the garden! And there’s plenty more out there almost red… amazing in May to still be getting tomatoes. There’s also 1 red strawberry among our strawberry plants!

Lovely sunny day again today, 23 degrees. So all doors and windows were open and the kitchen was fully sunlit. Dinner tonight was salad again (am going through a salad phase at the mo and have scheduled that for lunch for the next many days!). I made a green dressing to go on it – recipe from a cafe in Takaka. It involved blending up a cucumber, silverbeet, parsley, other herbs from the garden, gherkins, salt, mustard and olive oil!

It was nice as a change from my usual vinaigrette dressings but I’m not sure I’ll rush to make it again. Was kind of thick as I didn’t put that much oil in… so it came out kind of lumpy on the salad… I decided to mix it all up instead! And served it with another new recipe I tried… buckwheat and rice patties – easy to make and delicious. Yay!

Righto.. gotta go!!

About the Author

Born and bred in New Zealand's South Island, this Kiwi likes getting 'out there' exploring the world and its wonderful people! I have taught English in South Korea, volunteered in Kyrgyzstan, studied in Denmark, lived in community in Scotland and visited friends and wonderful people all over the world. Now married to Antony the adventures continue together. I have a habit of being notoriously behind in my blog - but will do what I can to record my adventures, as much for my own record as anything (as I have a terrible memory). After an amazing year in Iran and Europe, in 2016, Antony and I are off again September 29 2019 - Feb 1 2020. Hopefully I can blog about most of what we get up to! Enjoy the read! Kate x
