Day 12: Garden Tour

After doing the House Tour on Day 6, I thought today we could have a Garden tour. It is just as is – no garden tidying done prior to filming (unlike the house tour where I did it after a good clean!). I did a wee walk around the garden yesterday and talked and filmed at the same time.

We have a heavy empahsis on productivity in our garden, having reduced the size of the lawn considerably since we purchased the house in 2012 – putting in our ‘orchard’ and the vegetable plots – all that was just grass before. We also got rid of the roses by the letterbox as they only looked nice at one time of year. We planted natives instead as they require almost no looking after and always look nice. We put natives inside the fence too where there used to be ugly conifers. Can’t believe how massive our flax bush has grown though!!

So here’s the video – giving you a bit of an idea what our garden looks like:

Today was a day full of the usual lockdown stuff… TimeBank work, Les Mills workout (Body Balance today), some pottering in the kitchen and a bit too much time on Facebook. I found myself doing those things on Facebook that I used to ignore… today was the ‘name 4 things that…’ post going around. I also contributed to the photo challenge on our staff page which today was ‘circle’. I posted the following pic from when we were in Cyprus in December. Hopefully one day I will catch up on my travel posts in the ‘Exploring’ section of this blog… and actually write about our time in Cyprus… and Jordan… and Oman…. and Malaysia. I am SO behind!

I even did the list of jobs game on Facebook today – where you have to guess the one that’s not true. I found it quite interesting seeing some of my friends do this list… and learn about jobs I had no idea they had done! So here’s my list – which of the following is a job I haven’t had?

1. babysitter
2. radio DJ
3. jewelry seller
4. fruit picker
5. factory worker
6. youth worker
7. waitress
8. manager
9. tutor
10. children’s worker
11. office worker
12. teacher
13. coordinator

Feel free to answer in the comments on this blogpost or the Facebook post.

Right… I’m off to try a new dinner dish featuring… you guessed it… zucchinis/ courgettes/ marrows! It’s a courgette peanut stew from Chad. I may or may not have got sucked into an article online that featured a recipe from every country in the world! Will let you know how it goes tomorrow. Also on the agenda before bed is an hour of Te Reo Māori study, a monthly Green Party national zoom call and if possible a wee bit more TimeBank work…

Note to self: limit Facebook time tomorrow to get through the work to do list!!

About the Author

Born and bred in New Zealand's South Island, this Kiwi likes getting 'out there' exploring the world and its wonderful people! I have taught English in South Korea, volunteered in Kyrgyzstan, studied in Denmark, lived in community in Scotland and visited friends and wonderful people all over the world. Now married to Antony the adventures continue together. I have a habit of being notoriously behind in my blog - but will do what I can to record my adventures, as much for my own record as anything (as I have a terrible memory). After an amazing year in Iran and Europe, in 2016, Antony and I are off again September 29 2019 - Feb 1 2020. Hopefully I can blog about most of what we get up to! Enjoy the read! Kate x
