Day 26

After feeling like the days have just been disappearing so fast I decided to get up when I woke up this morning and exercise then, instead of pottering about waiting til the 9am Les Mills class on TV. It was also Body Balance this morning which I did yesterday so I felt like a different workout. So I was up before 7 and into the Les Mills online ballet workout. Then I did a thorough clean of the bathroom including shower, cleaned the microwave, kitchen windowsills and washed the floors. I normally clean floors after Antony vacuums (which he does every Sunday) and also clean the bathroom but didn’t get round to it yesterday.

It felt good to be so productive before breakfast! I did some emailing back and forth to teachers about when I’ll join them and their classses on Zoom this week or next and put some thought into what I will do when I see each class (5 minute type lesson/ activity). Today I re-jigged my meal plan for the week and did some small TimeBank admin tasks. I also cleaned out the toothbrush holder in the bathroom (in definite need of a clean!) and made a list of other things to clean while listening to podcasts or facebook lives.

For the first time ever it seemed to take a while to get to 4pm when the Prime Minister was to announce whether we would continue to be in Lockdown Alert Level 4 after the initial period comes to a close on Wednesday. In a way the decision wasn’t that surprising – that it would be extended until next Monday (a holiday)…then Level 3 comes into play. That won’t mean much difference for us we don’t think… might be able to get some take-aways, which would be nice. Antony is missing fish and chips! There will be a teachers only day on Tuesday and then some form of schooling will open up on Wednesday for the children who can no longer learn at home. Given my specialist teaching role means I go from class to class normally, I can’t imagine doing that under Level 3 when they are trying to keep the bubbles to maximum 10 people. Hopefully I can do some Zoom te reo lessons with students learning at home and at school – we will see! Zoom staff meeting tomorrow so will no doubt find out more.

I got this puzzle for my birthday from my parents. Today I set up the card table (one I inherited from my beloved Nana) and opened up the puzzle just before the PMs media briefing. My regular blog readers may recall I wrote about doing puzzles as part of my New Years Resolutions in 2019. This New Yorker puzzle is the same type as my favourite puzzle from last year (which I loaned from my Mum). I might carry on and do some more tonight while we attend the Aotearoa Town Hall event/ webinar on Shaping the Recovery. Really looking forward to hearing Kate Raworth’s thoughts – she’s a British economist & author of the fantastic book, Doughnut Economics. Been thinking quite a bit about economics lately – listening to podcasts about MMT (modern monetary theory) – so interesting! Must pull out my copy of Doughnut Economics and re-read – don’t think I got it finished last time.

I’m feeling hungry… must be nearly dinner time!

About the Author

Born and bred in New Zealand's South Island, this Kiwi likes getting 'out there' exploring the world and its wonderful people! I have taught English in South Korea, volunteered in Kyrgyzstan, studied in Denmark, lived in community in Scotland and visited friends and wonderful people all over the world. Now married to Antony the adventures continue together. I have a habit of being notoriously behind in my blog - but will do what I can to record my adventures, as much for my own record as anything (as I have a terrible memory). After an amazing year in Iran and Europe, in 2016, Antony and I are off again September 29 2019 - Feb 1 2020. Hopefully I can blog about most of what we get up to! Enjoy the read! Kate x
