Day 25 – Quiz time

The first Zoom Quiz I’ve been involved in went pretty well! We had 25 people in 7 teams and managed to get through the set up, 7 rounds of questions and answers and results in 2 hours… bit longer than planned but good fun.

As the Quiz Master I emailed everyone a PDF with the questions each round – discovering only after it was all over that Antony didn’t get them… he’d been missed off the list but didn’t mention it to me til the end! He was in a different room so I didn’t realise. Anyway his team mate was forwarding him the emails. I then put everyone in their teams (break out rooms on zoom) where they could discuss and decide their answers. One from each team then replied to my email with their answers and they returned to the big zoom room again. A couple of rounds had bonus points for first finished but because the technology was new/ tricky for some I didn’t want to pressure people too much with the time.

While the teams were busy nutting out the answers in their breakout rooms I was quickly marking their answers for the previous round. This worked out well for 6 of the 7 rounds which were all 10 questions each. But not so good for the wordplay section which had 24 questions and took longer to mark. Antony pointed out that the quiz was also unfairly weighted on this round… which is a valid point. If there’s a next time I’ll make sure every round has the same number of questions. It was because I used a picture for this with all 24 questions on it rather than make my own questions up. Most teams got 21 correct. See how well you go…

Other rounds included… name the game, left & right, numbers, music trivia, identify the country (from its shape) and the final round was what country are you in if… For a taster here are the questions for the last round. How many can you get without using the internet to help? Most teams got 5 which is also the number of things I have actually done on the list – can you guess which ones?

What country are you in if…

  1. You’re visiting a tomb at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre?
  2. You’re cage diving in the Cape of Good Hope?
  3. You’re visiting the home where Hans Christian Andersen was born?
  4. You’re naked in an Onsen.
  5. You’re snorkelling in the coral reefs of Negril?
  6. You’re hiking in Bukhansan National Park.
  7. You’re sipping a Moose Head beer in Moose Jaw?
  8. You’re admiring the Cathedral of our Lady of the Assumption which was once a mosque?
  9. You’ve taken the cable car to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain?
  10. You’re admiring the marble inside the Lotus Temple?
Bukhansan

It took me a few hours to come up with all the questions and their answers and sort out how best to run the quiz over Zoom. If there’s interest I’m up for doing another one – it was quite fun and hopefully wouldn’t take me so long to organise now I know what to do.

In other news… one of the gym instructors from the gym I go to did a livestream workout this morning at 10.30 so I joined in for that. Robert is a fantastic instructor but the timing of the classes he does at the gym don’t work for me now. It was nice to do body balance with a familiar face this morning … and see that some of my friends were tuning in doing it too – if you want to give it a go I think it is still available to watch here.

I don’t know where the rest of the day went! I did some online bridge practice and had a zoom Gardening Q & A… but otherwise not a lot! Oh well. Got some tips from Julia on the zoom call about turning one of my big plastic bins into a bit of a ‘greenhouse’ for seedlings… so will try and get onto that this week, see if some of my seeds will germinate.

Before I sign off and make dinner here’s what I made last night… lentil and walnut nutloaf (got the big tick of approval from the hubby; ‘bit like meat’ he reckons), hasselback potatoes and a salad. The lentil nutloaf is easy and pretty cheap to make (if you crack your own walnuts!) and makes quite a few portions. By itself it’s nothing special but put it with a nice chutney (like this one I made last year) then it’s fab!

For lunch today I made some zoodles (i.e. zucchini into strips like noodles, no cooking required- eat raw) and had them with my most delicious tomato sauce. To make this I put lots of my homegrown tomatoes into the food processor (recipe calls for 6… but I had lots of small ones) along with one red pepper, a clove of garlic, some sundried tomatoes, lots of fresh basil, a dash of braggs and pinch of salt. Whizz it all up and serve raw on top of the zoodles. This sauce went excellently with the lentil nutloaf – which I just had cold.

It’s almost 6pm and I’ve no idea what to make for dinner… maybe bibimbap again seeing as I have some bibimbap sauce made up from the other night. Yes I think that’s the answer. See you tomorrow.

About the Author

Born and bred in New Zealand's South Island, this Kiwi likes getting 'out there' exploring the world and its wonderful people! I have taught English in South Korea, volunteered in Kyrgyzstan, studied in Denmark, lived in community in Scotland and visited friends and wonderful people all over the world. Now married to Antony the adventures continue together. I have a habit of being notoriously behind in my blog - but will do what I can to record my adventures, as much for my own record as anything (as I have a terrible memory). After an amazing year in Iran and Europe, in 2016, Antony and I are off again September 29 2019 - Feb 1 2020. Hopefully I can blog about most of what we get up to! Enjoy the read! Kate x
