Day 11: Sunday Funday

Sunday was a day off work for both of us. But we are both rather active relaxers so we had quite busy days! Antony did the monthly accounts for a Trust he is treasurer for, vaccumed the house, mowed the lawn, did some other garden jobs, practiced golf into the big net we bought and set up his fancy indoor bike thing. Here he is going hard out around Central Park in New York using the Swift programme.

We had a late night last night playing Splendor and then watching the last two episodes of the first season of My Beautiful Friend… so it was good to get an extra hour of sleep and get up a bit later than normal today.

I spent most of the day in the kitchen. It’s my happy place, especially on gorgeous sunny days like today. 🙂 By 11am I was already ready for lunch (body clock thinking it was 12pm) so had some of the rye bread I baked last night with tomatoes from the garden. Then I made tom yum soup for lunch which we ate outside. It was warm and sunny… we got 2 loads of washing done and dried in no time!

Today was a bit of a repeat of last Sundays’s Marrow Misssion effort – trying to use up more of the marrow and zucchini. I made Anthea’s chocolate zucchini muffins which were a huge improvement on last week’s now that I have baking powder that didn’t expire in 2017! The muffins actually rose and were lovely. So much so that I then made a second batch.

I tried a zucchini chocolate cake recipe for the first time – thanks Roberta – it is rich and light.

I also made two loaves of my tried and true Zucchini bread (thanks Liz!). Most of the muffins and the Zucchini bread are now in our freezer… ready to pull out and enjoy in the future.

After all the sweet things I also made a batch of pea flour crackers (my faves) and some oat crackers – which by themselves are nothing special, but good with tomato or other toppings.

I still have more marrow and zucchini – some I’ve already grated ready for marrow fritters tomorrow and the others are in the fridge (or still in the garden) awaiting another baking day!

After most of the day on my feet in the kitchen my legs and feet were sore but I was in the mood for a workout so before dinner I did some body combat (2 short sesssions)… I had otherwise thought I might have a rest day today, but I enjoy it too much to not do it!

Dinner was leftover dragon pie from last night with homegrown silverbeet with garlic salt and umeboshi vinegar.

After dinner I played bridge online with some friends in a nice social game while Antony watched the movie Dunkirk on TV. Then about 10pm I sat down to write this! Yesterday’s post was a record for being the earliest published update – today’s is probably the latest!

Now it’s time for bed… zzzzzz

About the Author

Born and bred in New Zealand's South Island, this Kiwi likes getting 'out there' exploring the world and its wonderful people! I have taught English in South Korea, volunteered in Kyrgyzstan, studied in Denmark, lived in community in Scotland and visited friends and wonderful people all over the world. Now married to Antony the adventures continue together. I have a habit of being notoriously behind in my blog - but will do what I can to record my adventures, as much for my own record as anything (as I have a terrible memory). After an amazing year in Iran and Europe, in 2016, Antony and I are off again September 29 2019 - Feb 1 2020. Hopefully I can blog about most of what we get up to! Enjoy the read! Kate x
