Day 34 – Lockdown Level 3 begins

So today we moved to Level 3 of New Zealand’s Covid 19 alert level system. It’s still heavily restricted- I won’t have any social contact with anyone except Antony but was able to see my colleagues today – keeping our 1m distance at our staff meeting. I wasn’t sure if I’d keep blogging in Level 3 but felt like a quick update from today… so here you go.

3.19am – woke up before my alarm and thought that’s good.. until I saw the time! went back to sleep

5am – woke up again – still too early but not a chance of falling asleep again.. so I replied to some Facebook messages and read for a while

6am – Body Combat workout, thanks to Les Mills & TV on demand.

7.05am – chatted with Hoops on the Radio about the Te Reo Māori event I’m doing tonight

7.15am – showered, dressed, had breakfast, wrote some of my Petra blog, tidied my stuff (all over the lounge!), got ready for school

9.15am – biked to school for our staff meeting- lovely to see people in person. With it now looking like only 13 children (out of 350+) needing to return to school tomorrow, not many staff are required on site to supervise them. We were asked what our preferences were. I will work from home -making te reo videos, joining zoom calls and getting planning and resources together for when things are back to classroom teaching. Everyone is doing what they can either from home or at school. We had a good meeting covering everyone’s concerns and questions then ideas were shared of what was working for people with zoom and home learning. I got some laminating of resources done after the meeting.

1pm – back home, lunch outside in the sun (mushroom soup from last night which got my approval but not Antony’s), read my emails, caught up with Ants once he was off his phone, outside in the lovely sunshine on yet another stunning, warm day. We then got dinner prep sorted and I made the chickpea and vege curry ready for later (when I am between meetings with no time to cook). Started this blog post.

3.20pm – Timebank work including prep for steering group meeting at 5pm and some catching up and posting in an online forum all the NZ TimeBank coordinators have access to.

5pm – TimeBanks of Canterbury Steering group meeting… cancelled after 10 minutes due to low numbers/ too many apologies and key people missing. Rescheduling for later this week.

5.30pm – prepared for my Te Reo online class at 7pm. Ate dinner – SO delicious!

7pm Te Reo Māori beginner class via Zoom – focus on pronunciation

8.20pm Finish & post this little update 🙂

About the Author

Born and bred in New Zealand's South Island, this Kiwi likes getting 'out there' exploring the world and its wonderful people! I have taught English in South Korea, volunteered in Kyrgyzstan, studied in Denmark, lived in community in Scotland and visited friends and wonderful people all over the world. Now married to Antony the adventures continue together. I have a habit of being notoriously behind in my blog - but will do what I can to record my adventures, as much for my own record as anything (as I have a terrible memory). After an amazing year in Iran and Europe, in 2016, Antony and I are off again September 29 2019 - Feb 1 2020. Hopefully I can blog about most of what we get up to! Enjoy the read! Kate x
